To celebrate the 1st Birthday of the Penarth Pier Pavilion
I was asked to run a workshop celebrating the Pier’s hay day…the 1920’s.
I ran a vintage postcard workshop for children and adults.
Here is some photographs of the preparation,
spray painting the postbox and making the bunting.
We also had lots and lots of birthday balloons to
decorate the Pavilion, the Pier and Penarth town.
It was lovely to have such a big table to decorate.
I brought my vintage typewriter along and everyone really enjoyed using it,
whether it was to reminisce about how they used to use one before computers,
or little ones learning to use one for the first time, having never seen one before.
We had three different designs of postcards,
a photograph of The Waverley boat visiting Penarth Pier,
a vintage photograph of the pavilion and a photograph of Kathleen Thomas,
who in 1927, at age 21, was first person to swim the 11-mile distance
between Bristol and Penarth, when factoring in strong currents she swam
22.5 miles in 7hrs 20mins, no man had even managed it before her.
I was very happy with the final look of the table.
I was very busy all day, with lots of children and adults
coming over to send postcards to their loved ones.
The children loved the postbox.
We also had ‘Guess Who‘ , an incredible pop up photo studio,
with incredible backdrops and props.
A great way to remember a fantastic day of celebrations.
…and then onto a champagne filled evening or celebrations.
looks like you made a really nice event there! congratulations!
